The general admission consists of two main parts: a first part focused on the history and context of the Castillo de San Marcos building with a duration of approximately 45 minutes; and a second part, also lasting 45 minutes, which will shift the focus to the culture present today in Puerto de Santa María: Sherry wines. Taking as a starting point the winery attached to the Castle that allows us to know El Puerto de Santa María in all its fullness: historical and cultural aspect.
With the basic ticket you can enjoy a guided tour of the Castle of San Marcos led by an expert guide in the history of the castle who will accompany the visitor on a journey through the history of the Portuense monument and its influence on the rest of the city. population: from Puerto Menestheo to Santa María del Puerto, passing through the Islamic Alcanatif. During the visit, the elements belonging to each historical period will also be highlighted, highlighting each of the modifications suffered by the Castle throughout the centuries.
The second part of the visit will focus on the second cultural element of El Puerto de Santa María: the production of Sherry wines. As a town integrated into the Sherry triangle and taking advantage of the winery attached to the castle, there will be a visit to it and a wine tasting experience of 5 Sherry wines, also doing a historical and tasting review of the different types of wines that it offers this land rich in broths.

I have been to the Castillo many times with friends and with student groups and have always had a pleasant positive experience. On the morning of August 18, at the time we had already embarked on the catamaran from Cadiz I received an email that the guided visit and the cata de vinos had been cancelled due to unavailable personnel. Offered the option of a self-guided audio visit with refund of the difference of pricing we chose that option. My friends found the audio visit somewhat confusing . We were told we could sample wine at the end, which we requested and a staff member was found to help us. ( Apparently many staff members were involved with planning and event in the patio for that evening). After our own browsing of the selections, my daughter purchased two bottles for travel. The bottles were poorly packed and when removed from our baby stroller to enter taxi in Cadiz ( they had been in stroller all day), the bottles fell through the bottom ( I have previously informed you of this incident) and broke. Two lost bottles! I have many times purchased bottles and had them packed for travel and never has this happened! I am still awaiting a credit for change of tour and cancellation of the cata de vinos as promised in the email.

We booked the tour of the Sacristy and were not told at any point that this would not be happening. Our tasting was done in the shop with a very noisy tour group making it hard to hear what our guide was saying. If you are going to do this because of an event, you should have the decency to let people know they are not getting the tour they paid for. Terrible behaviour

Very well informed and charming tour and sherry tasting guides. El puerto de Santa Maria is also a beautiful town with fine restaurants and ice cream parlours. Free parking in the town centre by the bullring was a bonus.

The castle and the wine tasting were very good. The person who explained the wines was very competent. However the lovely young lady who did the castle tour in English had very poor pronunciation (which she admitted herself). This meant that the tour took only 18 minutes and everyone then took time to walk round the wall boards to read the information for themselves. I understand that people have to develop experience, but it really did make the guided tour a difficult and disappointing experience.
